Google AI Overviews Now Answer Typos and Queries With No Search Results

Google is showing AI Overviews for queries that return no matching web pages and for searches it reads as typos or random keyboard input. In those cases the overview can reply that the message may have been a typo or random keyboard input, then invite the user to restate what they need.

The behaviour is not new, and Google has been moving this way for some time. It fits the company's aim of returning an answer to any query, however specific or unusual, and AI makes that possible where classic search would previously have shown nothing.

For brands, the practical effect is that a growing share of low-quality or unmatched queries now ends in a generated answer rather than a results page. There is no page of links to rank in, so being cited inside the overview is the only way to appear.
