Google tests sitelinks inside AI Mode ads
Google is testing a sitelinks format for ads that appear inside AI Mode, according to a screenshot shared by search marketer Anthony Higman. The format shows extra link options attached to a sponsored result in the AI assistant's answer, similar to the sitelinks advertisers already use in standard search ads.
Ads have become a common sight in AI Mode, and Google is trying several layouts to find which ones draw the most clicks. Links in AI Mode answers, by contrast, tend to get less engagement.
For brands, the test signals that paid placements in AI answers are moving toward the richer formats advertisers already know from search. It also means the paid slot and the organic citation are being designed separately, so visibility work and ad buying in AI Mode may need to be planned as two tracks.
