Google AI Mode Adds Link Carousels for Developing Topics
Google has extended link carousels for developing topics to AI Mode, after first bringing them to AI Overviews in June. The feature places a row of web page links directly inside the AI Mode response, so users can reach original coverage alongside the generated answer.
Robby Stein of Google said the change is now live in AI Mode and already in AI Overviews. He framed the goal as making it easier to connect with original coverage and a range of perspectives.
The addition gives publishers a visible route back into AI answers for fast-moving stories, though not all are satisfied. Adam of Inspired Taste argued that AI Overviews still push publisher links down, citing a recipe query where an AI-generated recipe appeared above the site's own result.
For brands and agencies tracking citations, the carousel is a placement to watch in AI Mode, but it applies to developing topics rather than every query.
