Google cuts European search quality over DMA rules

Google has said it made its largest reduction in search quality in Europe as a result of the Digital Markets Act, according to a video recap of the week's search news. The company also published a document detailing regional differences in the Google Search experience.

The admission matters for brands and agencies tracking how often they appear in AI answers. If European search results are being degraded by regulatory changes, the pool of sources that AI Overviews and other assistants draw on may shift, and citation patterns could differ by region.

Separately, Google confirmed a temporary indexing reporting bug in Search Console, and said it can lose faith in a site that relies on low value programmatic SEO. The company also said the old position 1 to 10 ranking is hard to map for site owners.
