Google opens Connected Apps Platform preview for Search and Gemini

Google has opened a preview of its Connected Apps Platform, letting developers build apps that run inside Google Search and the Gemini app. The company described it as a unified way for app developers to bring their capabilities directly into both surfaces.

Developers integrate through a cloud-hosted MCP server or Android MCP using the AppFunctions APIs, then register, test and submit their app through the Google Connected Console. Before review they choose whether the app goes live in Search, Gemini or both, and afterwards they can track traffic, latency and error rates while keeping control of verified logos and authenticated accounts.

Google said more than 50 Connected Apps are already live across the two products, spanning productivity, event ticketing, health and fitness. Partners including Adobe, Experian, Localiza and Peloton are available in Gemini, with those integrations due to reach Search in the coming weeks.

Apps do not appear automatically: users have to add them in their personalised Search settings. For brands, the shift moves part of visibility from publishing pages to shipping functionality that assistants can call on, a point Google's John Mueller and SEO commentator Marie Haynes both raised.
