Google has made Universal Cart available to users in the United States. The tool, first shown at Google I/O in May, lets shoppers collect and monitor products they find across Search and in the Gemini app, keeping saved items and shopping progress in one place across multiple retailers.

The cart can notify users when a saved product's price drops or when an out-of-stock item returns. Google says it can also factor in credit card perks when helping shoppers choose how to pay, and surface relevant promo codes.

Checkout runs on Google's Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard introduced earlier this year that is designed to let AI agents and retailers work together across the shopping journey. Universal Cart joins other AI shopping features from Google, including conversational product discovery in Search's AI Mode and the Let Google Call tool, which uses an agent to check stock at nearby stores.

Amazon, OpenAI and other rivals have added agentic commerce features as well. For brands, the shift matters because product data that AI assistants can read and act on becomes the route into a purchase, not just a listing in a results page.
