OpenAI's publisher partners now take 12.5% of ChatGPT citations
OpenAI has signed licensing deals with more than 20 publishers since 2023, and those partners are taking a growing share of the links ChatGPT shows users. Ahrefs measured 85 partner domains in Brand Radar against a 5.5 million-answer US ChatGPT index and found ten of them among the 50 sites ChatGPT cites most often, with 47 in the top 500.
The lean has strengthened through 2026. Partner sites made up 7.5% of citations among ChatGPT's 200 most-cited domains in March, rose to 15.8% in July and held 12.5% in late September. Review and lifestyle titles lead: Vogue draws 42,108 citations, Car and Driver 41,603, Tom's Guide 36,439 and Good Housekeeping 35,728, while prestige news titles such as The New Yorker and Vanity Fair sit near 3,000 each.
Future's portfolio is the strongest partner group overall, with Tom's Guide ranked 15th and TechRadar 24th among ChatGPT's most-cited sites. Condé Nast places seven of its nine sites in the top 250, and Hearst's magazines far outdraw its newspapers, with the San Francisco Chronicle and Houston Chronicle each under 4,000 citations.
For brands, the practical read is that a partner site already cited in your niche is a strong PR target, since an article there is more likely to surface in ChatGPT answers. Citation counts are volatile day to day, though the largest partner domains move far less than individual pages.
