Wikipedia, podcasts and Reddit are feeding AI answers, and PR teams already know how
Wikipedia is the single most-cited domain in ChatGPT, according to Muck Rack's analysis of more than 25 million AI-cited links, and it also ranks among Claude's top sources across many industries. Ahrefs places it sixth in Google AI Mode, while Profound found roughly one in six cited ChatGPT conversations drew on Wikipedia, describing it as the model's default knowledge layer.
The shape of what gets cited matters more than the ranking. Muck Rack's Generative Pulse 2025 report found 42% of Wikipedia citations inside AI answers come from pages about processes, technologies or methods rather than brands or people. That points brands towards building well-sourced pages for their category or methodology instead of only fixing their company page, which Wikipedia editors reject unless content is neutral and verifiable against independent sources.
Podcast appearances behave the same way. A single booking produces a title, show notes, a transcript, a captioned YouTube video and a backlink, each separately crawlable. Contently's 2026 LLM Citation Analysis puts YouTube as the third most-cited domain across major AI engines, and Ahrefs found a correlation between branded web mentions plus YouTube mentions and overall AI visibility.
Reddit is the largest channel of the three by volume. Ahrefs Brand Radar counts 5.8 million Reddit citations from Google AI Overviews alone, ahead of ChatGPT at 1.3 million, Gemini at 477,000 and Copilot at 202,000. Comscore and Reddit research found the platform reaches 59% of U.S. business decision-makers, more than LinkedIn, with 38% of that audience absent from LinkedIn entirely.
