Gemini 3.8 Flash rolls out in Google Search
Google has moved AI Mode in Search onto Gemini 3.8 Flash, its newest model, roughly two weeks after the same surface was running Gemini 3.7 Flash. The upgrade is live for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, who can pick the model from a selector inside AI Mode.
Robby Stein, Google's VP of product, announced the change on X and said the new model is considerably more capable than the version it replaces.
Google has not said when free users will get 3.8 Flash, though earlier model upgrades in AI Mode have reached all searchers within weeks or months. For brands tracking how often they are cited in AI answers, each model swap can shift which sources get pulled into a response, so citation patterns are worth rechecking after the rollout widens.
