Google Tests Replacing Show More Button On AI Overviews With Loading...
Google is testing a change to the button that sits under AI Overviews, swapping the usual "Show more" label for "Loading...". The test was spotted by Sachin Patel and Khushal Bherwani, who shared a screenshot and a video of the button in the wild. Google has not confirmed the change and the button did not appear consistently when others tried to reproduce it.
It follows an earlier experiment in which the same button read "Enter AI Mode", a label Google tried and dropped. The current test keeps users inside the AI Overview rather than pushing them into the separate AI Mode experience.
For brands tracking how often they are cited in AI answers, the button text matters less than what sits behind it. A "Loading..." label suggests more content is being pulled into the overview on demand, which could mean additional citation slots and more chances for a source to appear. The test is not live for everyone, so any effect on referral traffic or citation share will be uneven until it rolls out more widely.
