OpenAI to test visual ads inside ChatGPT image generation
OpenAI will begin testing a visual ad format inside ChatGPT later this month, showing sponsored images while a user's own image is being generated. The ads will be labelled and kept separate from the image being created, and OpenAI says advertising does not influence the answers ChatGPT gives.
The format is aimed at letting brands show products in use or in context, rather than as text. Testing starts in the US with an initial group of advertisers.
Alongside the ad format, OpenAI is widening the measurement options for ChatGPT Ads. Conversion data can now be sent from existing systems through integrations with Hightouch, Tealium and LiveRamp, and attribution partners including AppsFlyer, Triple Whale, Adjust, DV Rockerbox, Northbeam, Branch, Singular, Kochava and Tenjin are supported for Conversions API, reporting and click attribution. Haus, Measured and WorkMagic are working with OpenAI on geo-based incrementality experiments.
OpenAI cited early partner figures: DV Rockerbox put WeightWatchers' attributed cost per acquisition on ChatGPT Ads 15.3% below its blended paid-search benchmark, WorkMagic reported statistically significant lift for wellness brand Dose with 67% of incremental purchases from net-new customers, and Triple Whale found 93% of Portland Leather's visitors from ChatGPT Ads were new.
