Profound raises $180M Series D at $1.8B valuation
Profound, which sells software to help brands appear in AI search results, has raised a $180 million Series D at a $1.8 billion valuation. The round comes less than seven months after the company's $96 million Series C.
Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins led the round, with existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures and South Park Commons also taking part.
The company launched two years ago as an analytics platform and has since added tools for researching and building marketing strategies. It says revenue has tripled over the past six months and that it now has more than 1,000 enterprise customers, among them Comcast, The Estée Lauder Companies and Walmart.
Profound is one of a group of startups working on generative engine optimisation and answer engine optimisation, the practice of getting a brand cited or recommended inside AI assistants that consumers increasingly use instead of traditional search.
